Ford Explorer 2016 Review, Price

The Ford Explorer 2016 model has received important refresh and with a sleek bodywork and enhanced features and improved performance. It’s the 25 generation of the Explorer models by the Ford Auto Industry. The previous models served as basic family oriented wagons, but these 2016 models is set to be more manageable for daily use. The new trim level has been introduced in the Ford Explorer and is known as the Platinum. There are five trim levels available for the Ford Explorer 2016 and are; the Explorer, XLT, Limited, Sport and the Platinum.

Ford Explorer 2016 – Exterior and Interior

From the outside view, the new Ford Explorer is available in various colors; Oxford White, Shadow Black, Magnetic Metallic, Guard Metallic, Blue Jeans Metallic, Caribou Metallic, White Platinum Metallic Tri-coat, Ingot Silver Metallic and Bronze Fire Metallic Tinted Clearcoat. The grill and headlamps of the Ford Explorer 2016 are fixed relatively higher than in the 2015 model of Explorer. The car dimensions are as follows; 198.3 inches in length, 78.9 inches in width and an overall height of 70 inches. A minimum ground clearance of 7.8 inches is provided and a wheelbase of 112.8-inches that ensures that stability and easier control at high speeds. A redesigned roof rack and a rear spoiler help in improving aerodynamics and active grille shutters that close and open when the car is at high-speed to reduce drag. The Explorer trim level have an original LED lighting that have their own small radiator grilles, silver painted front, dual-panel roof, a rear skid plates, 20-inch wheels and, in addition, an integrated exhaust painted with chrome bezels that are specifically designed to reduce soot appearance at the vehicle rear side.

The new Ford Explorer has a comfortable interior fitted with more features that target to help reduce vibration, noise and the harshness inside the passenger compartment. The available interior colors are; Ebony Black, Medium Soft Ceramics, Charcoal Black and Medium Light Camel. The Ford Explorer 2016 provides three-row seats that accommodate seven passengers, 60/40 split-fold second-row seats, and 50/50 split-fold third row. Additional standard features include; Ford’s Synchronization System and a 6-speaker audio system.

Safety Features

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Ford Explorer 2016 received an overall 5-star rating for the side, frontal crash test and a 4-star rating for the Rollover crash test. Safety features installed being; Child Safety Locks, Traction Control, 4-Wheel Disc Brakes, Brake Assist, Airbags(Driver airbag, side head airbag, passenger airbag, rear head air bag, passenger airbag) and Daytime Running Lights.

Ford Explorer 2016 – Engine and Fuel Economy

A new 2.3 L EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine has replaced the previous less powerful 2.0 L 4-cylinder that couldn’t be paired with all-wheel drive features. The new Ford Explorer engine generates 280 horsepower and a torque of 310 lb-ft and is connected to a 6-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission. The high-end platinum model is powered by twin turbo V-6 and all-wheel drive. The Fuel Economy Ratings according to the EPA are 19 mpg while in the city, 28 mpg when on highway and 22 mpg when combined.

Ford Explorer 2016 – Release Date and Price

The prices differ according to the trim levels of new model with base model explorer being $31,050, the Explorer XLT costing $33,400, for Explorer Limited is $41,300 and for Explorer sport and platinum being $43,500 and $52,970 respectively. The Ford Explorer 2016 was released to the auto markets in the summer of 2015.
