Chevrolet will use the GM Theta platform to design its new crossover SUV. This platform is used by the Chevrolet S3X, so the new Captiva will get most of the features from this model. However, it will get significant modifications in order to improve its appearance, fuel efficiency and performance. The automaker is planning to streamline the body of the car and add more aerodynamics onto it.

Rear side will be equipped with a refurbished bumper and innovative taillights. Side wings will be modified to give the car a sleeker appearance. The second one will be a 3.0-liter SIDI V6 petrol, capable of producing 190 horsepower and 212 lb-ft. These two engines will be paired with a 6-speed 6T40 automatic transmission.

The last option will be a 2.2-liter VCDi I4 diesel engine, capable of producing 181 horsepower and 300 lb-ft. It will be mated with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed 6T45 automatic transmission.

The three engines are expected to provide better fuel economy and emission rate figures. Fuel consumption will be up to 20 mpg in cities and 28 mpg on highways.


Main rivals of the new Chevy CUV include: Hyundai Sante Fe, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavour and Renault Koleos.

The upcoming Chevrolet Captiva 2017 is expected to cost more than its predecessor. Starting price will be around $25,000. Trims will of course cost more than this.
