Volkswagen is planning to expand its line of SUVs by bringing in a new compact vehicle with excellent off-road features. Going with the name 2017 VW Golf SUV, the new car is expected to fill the gap between Alltrack and Tiguan. There are also those who think that the car will take a position below the Tiguan and above Polo SUV or Taigun.

According to the carmaker, the compact SUV will be based on the MQB platform. Its dimensions will be similar to those of T-ROC concept which was unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. As for the wheelbase, there will be a standard and lengthened one. The former will be available in Europe while the latter in US and China.

The front end of 2017 VW Golf SUV will look a bit aggressive with an enlarged grille, bigger headlamps and a protruding bumper. On the sides, you can expect to see all-season wheels, roof rails and well-designed door handles. The rear end will be glazed by a stylish bumper and modern tail lights. More exterior features include: extended sills, under body protection and flared arches.

The base price of the upcoming Golf SUV will be around $22,000. The premium models will retail as high as at $41,000. So it won’t be such an expensive SUV. As for the release date, the car will go on sale in late 2016 or early 2017.
