2017 Acura RDX Changes, Release Date

Having undergone a major redesign for 2016, the Acura RDX comes largely unchanged for the 2017 model year. The model was first launched in 2006 at the New York Auto show and for the short period the car has been on the market, the vehicle has attained an unprecedented market success in an otherwise tough market segment. The success can be attributed to its excellent design, reliability and admirable fuel economy. It features an athletic and elegant exterior profile that is very attractive to the eye. 2017 Acura RDX – Improved Body and Interior:

The outgoing Acura RDX received extensive exterior redesign as part of the model’s mid-cycle refresh. Therefore, the 2017 model just features subtle visual upgrades. At the front, the 2017 Acura RDX features a new grille flanked by Jewel Eye-shaped headlights with LED bulbs. The front bumper is redesigned. The air intakes are also modified. The vehicle is offered with an Advance package which features front LED fog lights, keyless entry and ignition as well as rain-detecting wipers. Other features are similar to the one on the outgoing model. The exterior of the 2017 Acura RDX will be offered in two additional exterior colors which give buyers a wider variety to choose from.

Just like the exterior profile, the interior is almost identical to the outgoing model. Standard features include a centrally located center console with a HD display screen, a dual-zone air conditioning system, a premium audio system for audiophiles and up-to-date connectivity features. In additional to the standard features, the 2017 Acura RDX is offered in two packages for buyers looking for more sophistication. Some of the features included in the packages include HD radio, a GPS system with voice detection, rear traffic alert, heated and ventilated front seats, cross traffic alert and Acura’s Trademark watch.

For safety, the model comes with stability and traction control, ABS, bolstered seatbelts and enhanced airbags. Driving aids are offered as part of the packages.

2017 Acura RDX – Engine Specs:

Many enthusiasts hoped the 2017 Acura RDX would be offered with a new engine but to their disappointment, the vehicle features the same engine as the current model. The unit is a 24-valve SOHC i-VTEC with a displacement of 3.5 liters. The V-6 engine has been modified to produce more power than it does on the current RDX. The engine will produce 279 hp at 6,200 rpm and 252 lb-ft of torque at 4,900 rpm. It is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission system that channels power to the front wheels as standard. All-wheel-drive is offered as an option. The engine has an improved fuel economy of 1 mpg on combined drives. It returns 23 mpg compared to the current model’s 22 mpg on combined drives.

There are reports that the automaker is considering introducing a novel 4-cylinder turbocharged engine to the RDX in the near future.

2017 Acura RDX – The Reveal, Price and Competition:

The new Acura RDX will be available in dealer showrooms starting from April 2016. The base model has a starting price of $ 35,370, $ 36,670 with the Acura Watch Plus Package. The model with a Technology package costs $ 39,070 while adding both packages will see you spend $ 40,370. The model with the Advance package on the other hand starts at $ 42,020. The prices are exclusive of a $ 940 destination charge.

Competition:

The likes of BMW X3, Audi Q5, Lexus RX 350 and Cadillac SRS will be the 2017 Acura RDX biggest rivals.
