The RAV4 Hybrid is among the new alternative models of Toyota’s RAV4 lineup for 2016. The RAV4 is a compact crossover SUV with the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid model being the first of the RAV4 series to host a hybrid powertrain. 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid – Exterior Design:

The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid light body is mounted on 17-inch alloy wheels for the XLE and 18-inch alloy wheels for the Limited version. From the front, its hood line is raised to give it a higher and wider form. The trademark Toyota logo is distinctly placed in the middle of a more compact grille. The XLE has halogen headlights and daytime running lights while the Limited has LED ones. The back has redesigned tail lights that enhance the classy look, light tube ones for the XLE and LED for the Limited. The car also has a very distinctive rear spoiler and bumper.

Its interior can comfortably hold up to five individuals. The seats are made of upholstered synthetic leather, with soft padding fitted to enhance the elegant feel. The dashboard is restructured with a central display system featuring a touch screen that makes it looks less cluttered. An information display of the hybrid system’s status is placed between the tachometer and the speedometer. Although the car’s cargo space at the back is slightly reduced because of the battery’s location under the rear seat, the available space is still adequate. Other features include blind spot monitoring, parking sensors, heated front seats and outside mirrors, driver memory abilities, rear cross-traffic alerts, and adaptive cruise control. Others are keyless entry and ignition, Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity, and an entertainment unit that has a USB port, CD player, and an auxiliary audio jack port.

2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid – Engine and Transmission:

The vehicle has a 2.5-liter gas engine with four cylinders, a front and rear electric motor, and a 244-volt Nickel-Metal Hydride battery. This powertrain combined creates 194 horsepower, with the torque displacement clocking 206 pounds per foot. The electric-only driving mode can only be engaged for a short distance of about 0.6 miles at low speeds of not more than 25 miles per hour. This driving mode solely relies on the battery power.

The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid relies on an electronically controlled planetary gear, automatic CVT system that transmits power to all four wheels, although prioritizing the front wheels. Therefore, the Hybrid is an AWD vehicle with a unique AWD-i feature which means that the front electric motor is mechanically detached from the rear one. Consequently, the front wheels are used most of the time, with the electronically controlled rear wheels only kicking in whenever they are needed. AWD-i also allows for regenerative braking where electrical energy is captured through all four wheels instead of only two. This regenerative energy charges the battery pack. The car can get to sixty miles per hour in 8.1 seconds and has a top speed of 115 miles per hour.

The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid fuel tank capacity is 14.8 liters. Its fuel economy is 34 miles per gallon for city drives, and 31 miles per gallon for highway drives.
