2016 Subaru Outback Review

The 2016 Subaru Outback is destined to be a midsize wagon whose design is based on this car maker’s Legacy model, which is essentially a family SUV. With this 2016 model, Subaru has re-designed it from the 2015 model, in an attempt to make it look and feel like a mainstream automobile. To this end, the hard plastics and odd-ball ergonomics of the previous model have been swapped with superior quality materials, along with a more practical control panel layout.  The 2016 Subaru Outback will also feature a highly advanced technological user interface, and its fuel economy has been significantly improved. Not mentioning its coming with updated safety functionalities such as the brand new emergency assistance connectivity via the StarLink system. It also features a 8.7” ground clearance, which is undoubtedly significantly greater than most truck-oriented SUVs that are currently available in the market. This model comes in four trims, which are the 2.5 i, 2.5 i Premium, 2.5 i Limited and the 3.6 R Limited.

2016 Subaru Outback –  Exterior and Interior

The exterior of the 2016 Subaru Outback will integrate a major size reduction when compared to previous models. Its exterior design will now feature an aerodynamic inclined body. This according to Subaru, will assist in minimizing the effects of wind resistance. At its front, this automobile will come with a re-designed, more exquisite and much more powerful grille, with the Subaru logo prominently displayed in a central position. The 2016 Subaru Outback will also feature re-designed head and tail lights to lend it a more aggressive appearance. The 2.5 i model will come with 17” steel wheels, while the 2.5 i Premium will have 17” alloy wheels, the 2.5 i Limited and the 3.6 R Limited will have 18” alloy wheels.

As for the interior, the 2016 Subaru Outback will feature some few improvements from the 2015 model, especially when it comes to functionality. It will come with a lot of soft touch materials as well as impressive faux metal and wood tone accents. The entry-level will feature a height customization driver seat, a 60/40 folding passenger seat, a tilt & telescoping steering wheel together with a 6.2” touchscreen.

The 2.5 i Premium model will come with heated seats, a 10-way power driver seat, a leather wrapped steering wheel and 7” touchscreen. 2016 Subaru Outlook – Engine and Performance

The engine for the first three trims (2.5 i, 2.5 i Premium and 2.5 i Limited), will be a 2.5 L, horizontally opposed, 4 cylinder engine. Which will be able to provide a maximum horsepower of 175 and 174 pounds’/feet worth of torque. This Subaru Outback engine will power all four wheels via a CTV transmission system. Thanks to the buttons located at the steering wheel, this car will be able to mimic a 6 speed manual transmission whenever the driver is inclined to do so. The EPA rating for this engine is a combined 28 mpg (25 mpg for the city and 33 mpg for the highway). The 3.6 R Limited will be powered by a 6-cylinder engine that can provide 256 horsepower and a torque of 247 pounds/feet. The EPA rates it having a combined 22 mpg (20 mpg for the city and 27 mpg for highway).

2016 Subaru Outback – Price and Release Date

The prices for the 4 versions will be as follows. The 2.5 i will go for $24,995, the 2.5 i Premium $27,395, the 2.5 i Limited $30,395 and the 3.6 R Limited $33,395. The 2016 Subaru Outback is expected to hit the market at the end of this year.
